General Festival Submission Guidelines

The Williamstown Theatre Festival accepts agent submissions only. Due to our limited number of year-round staff, we do not accept unsolicited manuscripts or synopses.

The Williamstown Theatre Festival administers the L. Arnold Weissberger Award for Playwriting on behalf of the Anna L. Weissberger Foundation. The award honors noted theatrical attorney and avid theatre supporter L. Arnold Weissberger who passed away in 1981, and is designed to recognize excellence in playwriting.

The recipient of the award will receive a $10,000 grant, and the winning script will receive a reading produced by the Williamstown Theatre Festival during the following Festival Season, as well as publication by Samuel French, Inc.

Nominated scripts must be full-length, unpublished, and not have received a professional production or be scheduled for professional production before December 31, of the nomination year. Musicals, screenplays, and children’s plays will not be considered.

Nomination is by invitation only. Institution, agents, or schools must be invited to nominate a script on a playwright’s behalf. If you would like to receive an invitation, please call  the New York office at 212.395.9090.

A panel of theatre professionals will select the winner, to be announced each winter in New York City.
